| Boys Don't Cry is based on the true story of Brandon Teena/Teena Brandon - a woman living as a man in a small Nebraska town. Brandon is charming and the women are crazy about him. When two locals discover that Brandon is actually a woman, Brandon is raped and later murdered along with some friends. The hate crime rocked southeast Nebraska and made national headlines. If the interrogation scene in the movie is shocking, you need to hear the actual transcript in the documentary The Brandon Teena Story.
