Our Flatlander BMW Motorcycle Club is sponsoring a ride itinerary called "8 in 12". It is a rider's challenge to see how many members can ride to each of Nebraska's 8 State Parks within a span of 12 months. I have now been working for close to three years on accomplishing the goal of riding to every county courthouse in Nebraska. My most recent ride into the southwest corner of the state yielded 6 more on my list. So I have now visited 65 of the 93 county courthouses. To celebrate retirement, I realized a motorcycle dream of riding to Alaska and back with a good riding friend, Tom. We were on the road (including some time on ferries) for 27 days in June and July. After getting my driver's license in the mid "60's", motorcycles were my means of transportation. My grandmother's house was on the way home from the motorcycle shop, so I would stop there to show her each of my new purchases. She always rode as my 'first' passenger. What a 'trooper'!!! The black & white photos below were taken by her in the front yard of her home.

The colored photo is of my brother and me at our home in Omaha. I can imagine my Mom yelling at us to get the bikes off the grass!!

In January of 2001, almost 40 years after buying my Cushman, I purchased a Kawasaki Vulcan 800 so that I could travel with my 3 sons on a trip to Seattle and back.

Having put 32,000 miles on that bike and now convinced of my renewed passion for motorcycle travel, I purchased a BMW "R1150 RT" in August of 2004 as the next evolution in my mid-life "motorcycle crisis".
