Carol Meis Ellington, from Plattsmouth, Nebraska, graduated from Bellevue University in Bellevue, Nebraska with a BFA in Printmaking.  Her work has been included in numerous juried shows across the country and she has received many awards.

Artist's Statement:  "The arts have played a major role in my life since my first introduction to a Vermeer painting in grade school.  They have defined me as a person and influenced my work.  The observation and study of others' works has helped me understand the emotion and life in a piece of art.  This understanding has helped direct my passion and talent to create art, pouring my life struggles and emotions into each piece.

"Printmaking is the ultimate challenge because it's open to many possibilities and interpretations.  The cutting and etching process is as important as the finished piece.  Printmaking allows me to manipulate the wood or metal plate to achieve the right texture, color, contrast, etc.; to experiment beyond the traditional print processes; and to pursue my own personal vision.  Most of my work is very structured, but I leave room for "happy accidents".

"The strong visual impact of my black and white prints force the viewer to confront the image head on and hopefully look beyond the surface without the distraction of color.   My primary objective with my color prints is to create a dialogue between myself and the viewer--to connect feelings and emotions.
"My goal is to continue exploring this fascinating medium and to be open to new ideas and concepts."
