"We're walking, we're walking and... we're stopping."

This week's film is "Stigmata", which has been compared to "The Exorcist". It has Patricia Arquette (Courtney Cox's sister-in-law) and Gabriel Byrne. It is playing at the Lincoln theater at 12th & P Street at 7:35 pm. It looks like a religion based psychological thriller. From the preview, there is some depth to the film, but who knows?

"Outside Providence" is a good film. It is not a comedy like you would expect from the Farrelly Brothers. There are funny scenes and moments, but it is not hilarious like some critics have stated. It is a coming of age film, with a love story in the mix. Alec Baldwin's performance is very good. He really pulls off the New England dad who has problems of his own in addition to those of his family.

This is what they call a relationship movie... It relies on the relationships of the main character to drive its progression. In this case, we see the main character come-of-age, as he discovers the merits of helping others at the expense of himself. Relationship movies are very common because they are less expensive to make than sci-fi, or action. This means that we often see questionable relationship films. To this film's credit, at the end, I really felt compassion for the characters' various difficulties, and I hoped that everything would work out ok. I bought into it. This means that I thought it was pretty good.

The only real criticism that I have of the film is that it sometimes was slowly paced. There wasn't much action. But, alas, that's how relationship movies work... If they had action, then they would be action movies.

I also saw "Go" on video over the weekend. It was tolerable, and its style was interesting. It had fast cuts and disjointed story lines based on different perspectives of the characters. It also had cool music. All of these things made it a decent film, but it lacked the punch of other films. It needed a stronger story to go with the style. Let me tell you... It's all about the story.

Sorry I'm so boring this time. Have you ever had your aunt try to arrange your marriage? It's a long story that I won't tell in this forum, but suffice it to say that it put me in a weird funk tonight. You might want to check my ring finger the next time you see me... You never know, I might give in to the pressure sometime. :^)

I would be honored to have you attend Tuesday Movie Night. Please join us for "Stigmata".
